Having worked for over 25 years as an interpreter, I decided to share my knowledge of the field with you.

Our job as Interpreters is to facilitate communication between parties who speak different languages. By interpreting, translating and recommunicating both verbal and written messages from one language to another, we are facilitating across cultures.

 

Interpretation has its own challenges and the interpreters must have certain qualities in order to succeed, such as:

•   Be an extremely good listener

•   Have excellent sensory, motor and cognitive skills

•   Have an extensive vocabulary of at least two languages

•   Be culturally aware

•   Cope with stress and self-control when dealing with difficult speakers, colleagues or organizers

•   Show emotional resilience  

 

As a simultaneous interpreter, I consider myself to be extremely lucky to always find myself meeting very interesting people, in the presence of high profile personalities  and celebrities, attend prestigious events at very nice places, be introduced to the latest in every topic discussed during conferences and events, and most importantly always learning new facts and sciences.  Our job can be demanding, stressful, tiring and challenging yet it is very rewarding and I really do love my job!

 

As a consecutive interpreter, I am always attending to humane situations and connecting people by helping them understand their doctor, lawyer,  judge, immigration officer or colleagues in a business meeting. I have came across many stories and situations that have helped me to understand life better.

 

Interpretation is a true passion of mine and it is a fantastic job, and I have tried to include for you in each of these courses the result of my studies and long experience in the field.
